Louisa May Alcott has always been my favorite author of my all time favorite book Little Women. Kelly O'Conner McNees combines fact and fiction in this wonderful story. the book is an easy read and not easy to put down. As with Louisa May Alcott books you feel as if your being welcomed into her life.

This charming story will make you wish it was more historical fact than historical fiction. Given the fact that Louisa May Alcott destroyed many of the documents that would have given insight into her personal life (virtually no record of romance exists today), first time author Kelly OConnor McNees does a great job of filling in the gaps with her fictional account of what could have happened to Ms. Alcott when she was 22 years old and on the brink of leaving her parents and sisters to live independently and make her career as a writer. How could she find a way to balance this independent lifestyle that was uncommon for women at the time with the concept of young, inspiring love? This story will make you wish that this was actually how the inspiration for Jo and her Laurie came to be.

Like almost all girls, I first read Little Women in my early teens, and I have read it numerous times in the years since. It is nearly impossible to avoid falling in love with the March sisters, and you will find yourself doing the same with the characters in The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott. Kelly OConnor McNees manages to make the real life Alcotts as relatable and charismatic as the characters Louisa created herself.

What a great story based on journals, letters and what ifs? Definitely five stars for this first novel by an awesome author.

I enjoyed this book. It gave me some new information about LMA, and was a good story.
