This book is in the perspective of the main character named Ann. This is basically taking place as if she were in a room reflecting and going back on her memories of a year with the guy she is in love with. The entire book is about physical and mental abuse and why people might stay in abusive relationships and why they may choose to leave them as well. It was not bad, but the way it ended seemed like it wasn't that great unless they ended it with the chapter that came before the last chapter. I think they could have switched those last two chapters and it would have made more sense and I probably would have rated it better.
The whole book is basically about two people who don't really know one another but have goals for their future. Connor the boyfriend is a bit of a control freak over Ann and I do think that this had it spot on for how abuse can begin. There is a lot of bad language in this book by the way and also a scene (not graphic, but some descriptions are made) about a girl losing her virginity. The whole book made me feel sad for how easily swayed some teen girls can be towards guys who could take them down a terrible pathway.
I am not sure why I had originally wanted to read this book. It has been on my to-read list for a few years and I think someone may have recommended it to me. I pretty much read this without knowing what it was going to be about and it was not that good but it wasn't terrible. It was okay and a fast read.
Ladies, don't allow someone to break you apart but to encourage you. One thing about this book is that supposedly Connor does want to get help but since they were not married, I definitely don't think working it out together is worth it. IF someone is abusive, they should get help before entering another relationship. Basically Ann in this is used as if she is Connor's punching bag and counselor to do all his bidding for him. He wants help from her but she needs help too. I think a great point made in this book is that sometimes we become the things or person we hate the most.
