Heartsong. Historical Inspirational romance. Trials of a bride by proxy. Good story.
Bessie Randall is stunned to learn that her sister engaged in a long distance flirtation with an army officer using Bessie's name. Even more shocking is the fact that Jasper Mendenhall is now her husband by proxy--thanks to her sister's meddling. But with God's help, Bessie intends to be the best wife she can be.
Jasper is waiting in Fort Bridger for the raven-haired beauty whose picture he carries in his pocket. When the small, mousy Bessie arrives, he is flooded with confusion--and perhaps disappointment. Can he accept this unexpected turn of events? And can Bessie face the hardships of a Western fort?
Amidst all the trials, God sends unexpected blessings to Bessie. When He asks her to give up one of her most precious blessings of all, though, can she survive a broken heart? Will she have to go back home to Boston, leaving Jasper to find the wife he wanted all along?

This award winning Historically set book by Colleen Reece was excellent.
Bessie must rely on the Lord and His strength to get her through the mess that her sister with thoughtless meddling got her into. Now she is on her way to Fort Bridger to meet the army officer her sister has gotten her engaged to via mail using false premises. Bessie is determined to make the best of things with God's help. Jasper has no idea the beauty whose picture he has carried and who he has dreamed of is not the woman on her way to him. When small mousy Bessie arrives instead he is filled with confusion an feels even disappointed. How can he accept this turn of events?
You will see God at work in ways only He can throughout the twists and turns in this well written story. I enjoyed it and thought it was well worth reading!
