But Katherine was not Michael's possession. As Mrs. Michael Donovan, she might have had it all- in a material sense, that is. But she didn't have the one thing she needed most- to come first in her husband's life. So, if it took moving from Boston to Key West, even temporarily working as a hotel chambermaid, to take control of her life, so be it.
Yet it was as if that freedom mocked her. Michael's unexpeted arrival on Key West no longer seemed an invasion. More and more he was beginning to resemble the kind of man- the partner- Katherine had longed for.
