I didn't care for the beginning chapters of this book. The reasons the dogs were available for adoption were too sad. As the book progresses there is more about personal relationships, adoption successes, and dog training.

I do have an issue with the way the conformation ring was portrayed, but it is a fiction book, so I'll let that slide. And as fiction, I gave the book 5 stars, even with my slow start on the book.

Sweet book. The book is primarily about Lara's journey through life. It is a wonderful, fulfilling journey interweaving both canine and human characters who make you laugh and cry. The bonding of mother and daughter thru Scrabble was touching as well as the realization that parents are who they are and can't or won't change to be who we want them to be. The dogs, what I can say, Kendricks was spot on with matching characteristics with breeds and temperments with their masters. If you aren't a dog lover you will be after reading this. And then there is Evan....well I won't say anymore you will just need to read the book. Don't let the cover fool you, there is more to this book that just chick lit (not that there is anything wrong with chick lit -- I'm a big fan) but also, I am not saying it is a deep thought provoking book, it's just a really good book about a gal who stays true to herself and makes the world a better place. Maybe someone we all aspire to be more like.

It was about dogs so of course I liked it. The main character matches dogs and potential owners and in turn learns a little about human relationship matches as well. Entertaining, light reading.
