I had compuert problems the end of september and just finally got back online to find thAT THE ONLY CREDIT i HAD LEFT WAS TAKEN AWAY !Something about a false referrel? This is not true in any way i only refered one person only she never ordered any books. How can i fix this.i was hoping to order me a book and now i have no credits! Why would they do this? |

You shouldn't get a credit taken away for refferring someone. You should actually GET a credit if you reffer someone and they post their 10 books. Have you checked your credit registery under my account? It should tell you what happened to your credits. Also did you have any WL books on auto request that might have got requested while you were offline? |

Yes i checked and It says -1 because of a false referel which makes no sense at all .I referred one person who never orderd any books then another lady who never even posted any books I'm going to contact them and hopefully they can fix this problem . Thanks

Is it possible they gave you a credit for a referral, but then the person never posted the requisite number of books so they just took the credit back? |

I ordered a book from you, so at least you will have a credit coming to you. I hope you get the other one back. |

ok found out why the credit was tooken away. the one referrel I did she only posted the books and never ordered any so that is why they took it back. It sucks but i guess it does make sense. |

Hey, I figured it must be something like that. That sucks.
I'm a new member and I didn't know they had to actually order books for you to get the referral - I thought they just had to post 9 books.

Yeah thats what i thought too. Oh well better luck with the next referrel I guess |

It doesn't say anywhere that you lose your credit if your referred person doesn't order anything. There's nothing about a time limit for them to order a book. I hope that's not the case because I referred someone last week and got my credit, but they haven't ordered anything yet. I hope I don't lose my credit. |

If that is the case, then the credit should be withheld until your referal orders a book. While I do understand the way it works, it just seems as tho it would be less hassle and hurt feelings to "bank" your credit for you until your referal meets the "free credit" criteria. My two pennies |

I agree with Julie. Also, even if the person I referred post the required number of books, I have no control over whether they order any books or not. I can't make them order books! (Guess I need to drag out the old whip here!) So, why would I be penalized for something I would have no control over? Not everyone I have talked to about PBS and encouraged to join is a close friend. Some of these people I will probably never see again or very rarely. I have no way of checking up on them about whether they order books or not. Pam |

I thought also that you get referral credit as long as the person you referred posted books. I also didn't know that they had to order some books as well. That doesn't seem right. Help section says nothing about them having to order any books. I truly don't think that is why you lost your credit, and if it is the reason you lost your credit, you should PM someone official, because you shouldn't have lost it because of that. As far as I can tell, if you refer someone and they post 10 books, you get a credit. Not to be taken away. Last Edited on: 10/8/07 11:51 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

How long ago did she join? I would think she would be able to wait awhile to order books. I don't order that many. In fact I'm on a WL only hold right now for purchasing. I have a lot of credits. I have a move coming up and a ton of unread books already. Did she ignore requests for her books and thus her account was cancelled? |

Are you sure it's that they never ordered a book? or is it that they refused to send their posted books when they were ordered? or they just posted enough books to give you a credit and then asked to have their account closed? It seems to me a "false referral" would be someone who doesn't meet their obligations to the club. Nobody has an obligation to order a book, but members do have an obligation to send out books that they post on their shelves. If it looks like they don't really have the books or they posted them without ever intending to send them out, then that would be a false referral. They weren't really intending to be a member when they joined, so you are not really entitled to a referral credit. |

Where should we go to get an official answer on this? Because I would like to know too! |

Okay, I have been looking through the Help Center for information about this and I will let you know what my idea is on this - I may not be right, but it seems to make sense to me. You referred someone, they posted their 9 or 10 books (depending on when they joined) and you got your referral credit. Then, they removed all their posted books and have gone inactive. Therefore, they were only here to get the free credits and weren't really interested in the site. I know you have no control over this, and it is not your fault, but the system sees this as a false referral and takes your referral credit away from you. I can understand why the system works this way. Say someone referred 10 people and those 10 all posted their initial books and the referrer got their 10 referral credits, then the 10 people referred removed all those books and went inactive. The person who 'referred' them just got 10 free credits for doing nothing. I hope this helps you. Have a wonderful day. -Layne |

Well, my 2 cents worth is that calling it a "fake referral" to me at least implies that Cheryl had something to do with it in order to get a credit.and if Layne is correct that seems an awful lot of trouble to go through to give some one a credit. I think at the very least the system could have generated an email explaining the retraction of the credit, possibly saying since the member in effect retracted their 9 books then the referral credit is also removed. The thing is the person might just felt the site isn't for them, maybe not finding anything they want, or just felt the idea of paying postage on books was too much for them. Could be any thing to assume it is fake to me is a bit harsh. |

The person who 'referred' them just got 10 free credits for doing nothing. I can also see someone creating several accounts and providing referals to the original account in order to get more credits. While I don't think that Cheryl did anything wrong here, the referral system needs to allow for the removal of credits for when people sign up disingenuously or for whatever reason decide the site just isn't for them. |

I'm agreeing with Jane here - I'm sure R&R keep a close eye on that, as those gift credits do cost them money! |
