The book was a decent read for the most part and I picked it up not knowing anything about the game it's tied to.

I felt the pacing was a bit slow to start with and the reader really didn't get a good handle on why "the bad guys were bad" and "the good guys were good" until a good 1/3 through the book. The writing was decent and as far as pacing it's a fairly fast read. It would have been a better book if the back story had been filled out more and the magic system more fully explored. I gave it 2 1/2 stars.
