This is a different kind of story; Maggie was abandoned by her husband seven years ago, just after she told him that she was going to have his baby. He put her on a stagecoach to Prescott, Arizona Territory, and told her that he would soon follow her, as soon as he got some legal problems sorted out.
Now, Maggie is living poorly, working in the restaurant that her aunt and uncle own in Prescott. Her young daughter's greatest wish is to have her father come live with them. So Maggie scrapes together some money and gets a retired Texas Ranger, Matt Weston, to hunt for her husband and return him as a Christmas surprise for her daughter.
This great plan soon starts to come apart. Maggie and her daughter are quickly taken with Matt Weston. And Weston feels the same about Maggie. However, he is a man of his word and he sets out to find the deadbeat dad, Rafe Hollister.
It doesn't take Matt long to find Rafe, but Rafe has a new squeeze. Because he's such a good guy, he proceeds to turn Rafe into a more-desirable spouse and father.
In a lot of ways, this was a comedy of sorts. However, I thought it fell short with its comedy of errors. Not one of Sharon Ihle's best.
