I looked in the help and didn't see the answer... but I vaguely remember that the sender actually has 2 more days to mail before it gets automatically canceled, is this correct...

Example.. I have a book sitting that had the mail by date of 10/23, so it's actually after 10/25 that the book gets canceled if the sender hasn't marked it mailed... right?

You're right Sam. The book will cancel out in the early morning  hours of 10/26.

I think they do that because some people don't log on everyday.  The book might have already been mailed but they just haven't logged on to mark it mailed.  Does it say if it's been printed or not?

Hasn't been pritned yet.. it looks like a "sometimes member".. books added to their bookshelf 6/06, and hten a few this month (my WL book included)... oh well... I'll go back to number 1 if it gets canceled :)

They probably didn't notice it was a WL book and came up on WL hold. Some people don't pay much attention to their shelves especially if they don't get that many orders. 

Did you PM the person? I had one that did this and when I PM'd the sender to let them know it was going to time out, she'd already sent it, just forgot to mark it as sent.
