I'm not sure I can do justice to this book with just a review. I lived in the South when I was a child ... Tupelo, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. The author has captured the reality of the times and the fears of a lot of people.
This is the story of Anne Brady, a teacher who truly loves what she does. She is put in a position of fighting for her job, for her students, for her reputation because of a Mark Twain classic. She finds herself battling over censorship, religious fanaticism.
Things can turn very ugly and very dangerous in a heartbeat.
This is an extremely well written novel. I applauded Anne's courage, her strength to stand up for what she believed. The ending was quite surprising ... but then nothing is guaranteed in life ..
Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
