This wasn't a terrible read, but half the time the setting was more interesting than the plot. I was expecting a lot more character and plot development that never happened - when there was any it felt real and engaging, but overall it was kind of a letdown. I also found a few of the main character's tangents rather jarring; they took me out of the story at awkward places. Perhaps the next book in the series will go further in exploring some of the details I thought were overlooked.
