Very detailed and the author is a proficient writer, but he leans heavily upon Hollywood as a milieu.
"In 1962 Marilyn was settling down, beginning to accept a new role in her life and planning for the future--rather than living every day as a surprise gift that must be spent lavishly. Marilyn had bought this house a few months before for $77,500, using some ash, but assuming a mortgage for about half the value. Hers was not an unusual purchase among Hollywood personalities, even those with the highest earning power, for while money talk is common in Hollywood, large sums of cash are more elusive, and financial commitments are always heavy for those in the charmed circle. Marilyn was far from penniless--broke but potentially solvent--and she would remain thus as long as she retained her earning capacity. On that day, August 4, she had been offered a starring role in a projected Broadway musical (which was never produced), and not long before she had rejected a Las Vegas night club's offer for an engagement at fifty-five thousand dollars per week."
