Spencer Williamson lost everything he loved when he buried his family. His heart is dead and he never intends to feel the pain that loss brings again. He married Olivia out of necessity not because he loves her. He never intends to give her the children she wishes for, prays for, month after month. Because of her innocence, he manages to hide his deception from her for three years. Olivia takes her dead sister's abused children to raise thinking this is an answer to her prayers. A near tragedy will change Spencer's attitude about how he feels toward Olivia, but will it be too late to make things right?
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. It's on my keeper shelf, and I reread it every year. Great Americana if you like late/early 19th century.
