The discovery of fossil dinosaur and Jurassic mammal bones at Como Bluffs in the late 19th century is very famous in the annals of North American paleontology; the dinosaur specimens collected by Marsh are among the earliest collected dinosaurs found anywhere in North America. The lithographs are considered by dinosaur scholars, their students, and many dinosaur aficionados to be among the best and most detailed depictions ever made. The lithographs are complimented by a historical sketch of the action at the dozens of quarries at Como Bluff and at the Morrison Formation and Garden Park, Colorado, with maps, as transcribed from correspondence field collectors to Marsh in New Haven during the years these explorations took place (1977-1889).« less
