reviewed Marty and the Micro-Midgets, on
Marty is an upper-middle class suburban boy in NJ when his family is transferred to a sleepy, central-Florida town. While he and his mother struggle with their new rural surroundings, Marty discovers the world of micro midget car racing.

I've read a few other books by the author, and a common theme is that of a spoiled, helpless suburban boy who encounters a rural, self-sufficient world and becomes manly as he sees the value of things like hunting, engines, sports, etc., etc. The men are all stern but just mentors, the women smothering morons, and our boy heroes are generally won over by the 2nd chapter. Also, the writing quality is low.
