Has anyone read all three books in Ted Dekker's Martyr's Song series?  I'm wondering if each one builds on the one before, or if they can be read out of order.  I've read #1 and I have #3 on the way, but it may be a while longer before I can get #2.

I have not read those.  I need to get around to getting those someday.

I've read the first, have the third on the way and just don't know if I should read it before I get the second.  In reading about them, it doesn't sound like they have storylines in common...if anyone knows, let me know.

When Heaven Weeps (second in the series, I think) is among the top ten best books I've read in my 50+ years of reading, and absolutely THE best Christian fiction I've ever read. I tried to read Thunder of Heaven (#3, I think) but just coudn't get into it; I'm not sure why...I certainly wanted to like it. I have Heaven's Wager on my WL now. As I understand it, The Martyr's Song (#4) is basically a reprint of the first part of When Heaven Weeps, but I'm not sure.

I think there are some common characters in Heaven's Wager and When Heaven Weeps, but I don't remember that being the case with Thunder of Heaven.

At any rate, while it might be preferable to read them in order, I cannot recommend When Heaven Weeps highly enough. It is a difficult book to read...the strength of the faith of some of the characters and what they willingly go through because of their faith is so powerful, it was literally painful for me to read. But I couldn't STOP reading. So, if you can get your hands on WHW, read it. Even if it's out of order, you will never forget the experience, particularly if you're a person of faith.

Sorry for the ramble, and hope this helps.

Thanks, Wanda, for the info.  Yes, it did help.  I'm #4 in line for When Heaven Weeps so maybe I won't have to wait much longer:)  I'm definitely looking forward to it now.

I agree with Wanda, When Heaven Weeps was simply incredible.  I've not read any of the others, but I was told by a friend who has that they dont' need to be read in order.
