I greatly enjoyed Colette Gale's retelling of this classic novel, more than I enjoyed her prior treatment of "The Phantom of the Opera". I thought she did a good job of painting Mercedes in a sympathetic light and did a good job of filling in the details of what could have occurred during all those years between the arrest of Edmond Dantes and his re-emergence as the Count from Mercedes' point of view.

Excellent writing. The storyline was beautifully and colorfully told, descriptive and compelling. Character development was very well done. I enjoyed this book tremendously; can't wait to read others by this author. It wasn't as erotic as I expected; I thought it would be darker, or even kinky; but the sex scenes were well-written and an integral part of the plot. I'm tempted to keep the book, but it's too good not to share.

This is my first romance classified as "erotic" and it definitely didn't disappoint in that area. However, the storyline didn't cut it and the romance aspect was virtually non-existent. Good thing I already "knew" the story! The storyline was so lacking that the only thing that kept me turning the pages was the next coupling. If this is "erotic romance", I can do without it. I like a little story with my romance! Needless to say, I was VERY disappointed in this book.

This is a beautifully written story. I'm going to check out her other book now too, Unmasqued.

A unique and intriguing re-telling of a famous classic. I was a little frustrated over the long time span for this story to culminate, and I think, too, that my blood-thirsty tendencies were a little thwarted because the villains didn't suffer as much as I'd like. I couldn't help but love Edmond for even though he was driven by anger and revenge, he was still endearing to me. I was surprised by the extent of Mercedes' suffering and the sacrifices she had to face not only while she waited fruitlessly for Edmond's return, but through her entire marriage. Their final reunion was too short at the end, but their love was still true. 3.5 stars.

I liked this book. It had a good story line, but her first book, An Erotic Novel of the Phantom of the Opera was better!
First book I have read by this author, a fairly interesting book altho there were some parts I skipped over thus the 3.5 star rating. Not sure if I will read more by this author, but will probably try at least one other book to give it a fair shot.

This is NOT a young adult book.
