I would love to be able to create a list of Books I Want and crossreference that against someone's bookshelf.  This would be particularly valuable for use with Book Bazaar offers.  Currently, I am resorting to searching author by author or title by title.

When I saw the information about Tags, I thought that might be what I was looking for, but I haven't figured out how to use the tags in this manner yet.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steven

I agree  it would be nice maybe if when you are looking at books on people's shelfs if there could be a w for wl of a r for reminder so you know when it is on 1 of your lists. Kinda like the star thing how when you rate a book it shows up yellow.

Color me confused.  If a book is on your wishlist, and someone has the same book listed, it would have been offered to you.  If you are talking about reminder list books, you would have to search for those manually.  This is because PBS uses the FIFO system - the first person to list the book receives the request to send it.

If you join Box-O-Books, you can search for a title and then find a list of people who have that title.

Not necessarily.  I have in the past books that are wishlisted and not requested most often because of different ISBN, or occasionally it's because someone has listed either the pb or hc and doesn't realize that it came out in the other form and is available.  Doesn't happen too often but it does.  Good example is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold I have at different times had it listed and remain on my shelf for days/weeks until I got around to posting it to the different ISBN thread, being snapped up imediately because there were people wanting it.

I agree, not so much about wishlisted books, but reminder books there are many times I by pass deals because I really not sure what is on my reminder list an I am pressed for time.  It would be a extra benefit to have a lil colored R  when I view other book shelves.

If folks have that option turned off in their personal settings, they wont be notified of other editions of the same book they've got wishlisted.

Are you wanting to check to see if there are multiple books you are interested in on another members shelf so that you are ordering more than just one book from another member?

If so, what you are describing, is already in place, it is called Box-of-Books. You can read about it in the Help Center, just click on the Browse Docs at the top here, then there, click the yellow button,  USING PBS FEATURES then the BOX-O-BOOKS tab. See if that's what you are looking for.

I don't have it turned off and have never been offerred a wishlisted book under a different ISBN, don't know if it just never has happened or what.  I now list all the ISBN editions I can find, but there was a long period of time when I didn't know I could do that.

Sherry Box of books isn't what we mean.  Basically when I go to the book bazaar for deals, 2 for 1, 3 for 1,etc... it would be helpful when looking on their shelf to notice something that may be on my reminder list.   Box of books wouldn't really work for me, because I don't always want a lot of books per order, but sometimes I do like to take advantage of a deal.  I am curious though, if I were a boxer would a "R" show up on other's bookshelves to indicate a book that is on my reminder list?  If so, why can't they do that across the board?  Just curious.

What you just described Tammy isn't ever gonna happen, unless I miss my guess. I believe it is 'sort of' possible, but not quite like you described it. LibraryThing has something similar, where it will tell me which books I have either on my shelf or under certain tags that that are on someone else's shelf. Maybe that's where the tag things is going to come into play. But, I would doubt it, unless they are planning on completely doing away with the FIFO system, because that would totally circumvent it and make it worthless. Interest thought, just not one that is feasible at the same time as a FIFO system.

I think, although I'm no expert, that the tags might help with that once more people have actually tagged their books.  But maybe not.  Maybe it would just direct you to all books that meet that description in the system.

I've always thought that would be helpful in the Book Bazaar, but it's highly unlikely that it would ever happen.  What you can do is say "Looking for a deal on these books" and list all your reminder list books.
