One of DeMille's earlier books that was made into a movie. Book is much better than the movie.

A supersonic airliner has an unfortunate meeting with a navy test missile at high altitude. The plane depressurizes, and only a few crew and passengers survive without suffering from lack of oxygen before the plane levels out at a lower altitude. Led by a weekend pilot, the few survivors bravely try to bring the plane home, but they have to battle not only the elements, a plane full of irrational brain-damaged passengers, and their own fears, but also those who would rather see the plane crash at sea.

What a great read. This book grabbed my attention on page 1 and never let up. It was non stop action and took me on a roller coaster ride. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book for those like high voltage mystery, intrigue and a lesson in the greed and lack of conscience of some people in high places. Amazing story.

Tale of a crippled airline that is being flown by a weekend pilot, after an accidental missile strike, .....all passengers and crew, except for a few, are either dead or brain damaged.....some parts are a bit over the top with zombie like passengers roaming the aircraft...but others, are seat gripping, heart pounding terrifying ....Warning-do not listen to this if you are going to fly anytime soon!

Twelve miles above the Pacific Ocean, a missile strikes a jumbo passenger jet. The flight crew is crippled or dead. Now, defying both nature and man, three survivors must achieve the impossible. Land the plane. Like a growing tidal wave, the escaping air was gathering momentum. A teenaged girl in aisle 18, seat D, near the port-side aisle suddenly found herself gripping her seat track on the floor, her overturned seat still strapped to her body. The noise of the escaping air was so loud that it was no longer decipherable as sound, but seemed instead a solid thing pounding at the people in their seats...

Mayday is simply a fabulous read! Many books claim to be pageturners or leave you on the edge of your seat, but this one actually delivers. It's hard to put down. And since this version is unabridged, the reader can savor every suspenseful moment.
