Tessa James Hardington has several secrets, one in particular that could get her tossed into prison. But is what she's doing really a bad thing? Tessa also has an uncle who would seize control of her money and soon leave her broke. To keep him out of her life she asks an old beau, Charles Emerson, to pretend they are married until she can find a better solution. Charles soon wonders just what kind of mess he's stepped into when he discovers Tessa is harboring secrets she won't trust him with.
