I could not put this book down. It's an intertwining of various stories from folks living in the same part of the West -- an historical, fictional account of a lifestyle since vanished. You will want to remember these characters forever!

This is not noted anywhere in the book, but James Galvin lived in the mountains where this book takes place and grew up with the characters of this book, and he is the narrator of the book. He wrote this book for his daughter, and never intended to publish it. I wish I would have known that as I was reading the book, not after the fact. It would have made a lot more sense.

Having lived in Laramie, Wyoming and Fort Collins, CO, this was an interesting book to read. I've been to the places he talks about, driven past Tie Siding, Wyoming and Virginia Dale, Colorado, and been in the Neversummer Range. It was wonderful to read about the characters that lived there many, many years ago.
