An excerpt from the book:

Gib took hold of the porch post and leaned close. "Julia." His voice was whisper-soft with a hint of tease. "I could guess your name just by looking at you. You know why?"

Julia stared at him. His nearness made breathing impossible.

"Because your eyes are like jewals. As clear and pretty as jewals."

He watched her for a moment, then leaned down and kissed her, a warm, gentle kiss without haste or passion, and then again, more firmly, a kiss so sweet that Julia felt an odd sinking in her belly, and her knees went weak.
