Lynn, Norfolk.] Cash I. ... more » UT the 2Oth of March, 1799, a boy named Ripper, age.l three years and a half, being rnther of a grofs habit of body, was inoculated under my direction by Mr. Craw Forth, jun. furgeon, with vaccine matter, which I had received the day before from Dr, Pearson, of Leicefter-fquare, London-. A fmall incifion was made upon the left arm, in the ufual place of inoculation for the variolous infeftion; into this was inferted a piece of thread, thoroughly impregnated with the aforefaid matter, moiftened with ftcam, and fecured in a proper manner with fticking-plafter, and alfo a bandage to prevent its removal. Monday, March zjth, being the fixth day after inoculation, upon removing the bandage and fticking-plafter from the incifion, it appeared to be elevated, and in a ftate of inflammation, attended with ftnall irritattd eminences in its vicinity; but no conftitutional illnefs from this local nftion hnd hitherto fupcrvened. However, the following day, being the feventh after inoculation, upon re-examining the inoculated parf, the inflammation anJ fwclling were found to be much increafed. A fmall flat vefication was alfo obferved in. the-centre of the inflamed part, the boy being now fcixed with fever, viz. rigors, flufhings of the face, quick pulfe, head-ach, fldn hot and dry, and accompanied with confiderabli; languor and drowfmefs.
