This is a great book (play). Even though some people see it as anti-semetic, it shows that people can be horrible no matter what nationality or religion. Shylock's Hath Not A Jew speech is so touching...so true. I recommend this to all adults, even older teens.

I used to think Romeo and Juliet was my favorite among the Shakespeares - but this play really had me at the edge of my seat during the trial. You keep on saying to yourself: Really! Is he going to die???

Unfortunately, anti-semitism, money and maybe even greed should be added to the tag lines. As great a playwright as Shakespeare was, it was a little difficult to overcome the anti-semitism. Perhaps Shakespeare did this to illuminate that one's enemies could be one's creation more than anything else.

Additionally, I don't think money was at the center of Shylock's universe. Unfortunately, I think it was the only thing left...
