The Merlin Conspiracy
Author: Diana Wynne Jones
A glorious new fantasy from an award-winning author. The story is narrated by two very different teenagers, who each inhabit two extraordinarily different worlds. I expected this book to be an Arthurian fantasy but instead it was an adventure set (mostly) in an alternate modern-day England. Arianrhod (who prefers to be called Roddy), the daughter of a weather wizard, accidentally turns up an evil plot in the middle of the Kings Progress. But everyone seems to be convinced that since shes a kid, shes got things wrong and that the Merlin, the Kings main adviser, must be incorruptible and above reproach. Attempting magic to summon wizardly help, she contacts a boy from another realm altogether but Nick, although hed like to learn magic, is rather lost himself.
This YA novel was a thoroughly enjoyable book I liked it MUCH better than Fire and Hemlock, the last book I read by Wynne Jones. Its a must for any fans of her Chrestomanci series.

Diana Wynne Jones is a great fantasy writer for older kids and adults who love kid-lit.

Wynne gives us such endearing characters, such as Grundo, a dyslexic wizard, and Salisbury, an awakened, mobile city. Whimsical magic-user story with a dark undercurrent. Fun read.

Interesting young reader's book about multi-world characters.
