Micros in Mathematical Education (Mime): Momentum
Micros in Mathematical Education Momentum - Mime Author:A. C. Bajpai, J.A. Fairley Whitfield, I.J. Downend The aim of the MIME Project, is to produce units, comprising programs and backing documentation on mathematics topics varying from school levels to second year engineering undergraduate standard. This particular unit is concerned with problems in which two bodies collide with each other, in particular with the effects of the collision on the mot... more »ion of the bodies. The concepts of linear momentum and impulse are introduced, the principle of conservation of linear momentum is established and the non- conservation of energy during impact is demonstrated. Impulsive tensions are considered, the law of restitution is validated and examples are given of impacts in ball games. The disk-based software for the BBC microcomputer is complemented by work cards and teacher's notes. A networking version is also available.« less
