Good medieval romance with a touch of magic.
Enjoyable. Alberic has no family, and no property, but gains them through the fortunes of war and the king's whim. The daughters of the vanqushed lord are now the wards of the king, and Alberic is given his choice of the three to wed. Gwendolyn resists, and plans an escape, but cannot find a way to prevent the marriage.
I enjoyed this book very much. Could not put it down. I am looking forward to the next in the series because this is one of those trilogies which will not be finished until the very end. It will be well worth the anticipation.
