Jack nightingale gets involved in trying to rescue his sister from life in an insane asylum for crimes she did not do. He cannot do it through the legal system, so he makes a deal with the devil and helps her make one as well. Jack's humor and sarcastic wit are not lost on the present-day cops, other colleagues, or people he simply meets.
