While this book illuminated a part of American history few of us were taught in grade school history classes (among so many other parts of American history not taught, it fell short of my expectations.
I wanted to learn more about who these people were who chose to go to impoverished Africa rather than stay in the states enslaved. Who they were, why they chose this option, how it felt to them when they arrived and saw it was not going to be easy.
Instead this book is more of a geneolgy of two families and the writers quest to find them. Not as interesting to me.
