Molly Owens, an operative for Fenton Investigative Agency, is sent to the aid of a wealthy miner to find out the cause of disruption in mine operations. She encounters a number of men of the old west but four play important roles in the investigations. One dies unjustly, one owes her his life, one is trying to kill her and one who might have been the love of her life turns against her. An interesting fact is revealed in this book: in the late 1800's Investigation Agencies did use women as their agents and they were apparently successful at a time when women were still looked upon as wives and mothers only in a man's world.

This is an appealing story of a young woman in the Old West, who works as a private detective. It's mildly funny, a tiny bit romantic, and tiny bit erotic, and just generally good-natured fun.
