First in a new, well-reviewed (by NY Times) series. (The second one "Dig" is just out). Maddy manages the morgue at a newspaper in an Ohio town modeled after Akron. She teams up with a new ambitious young reporter to solve the case of a murdered evangelist. I liked Maddy a lot with her gruff on the surface manner. This looks to become a great series. BTW this book has a real unexpected twist at the end that keeps you on your toes.
"Morgue Mama" is Dolly Madison (Maddy) Sprowls, the head librarian at the Hannawa Herald-Union. Ambitious new reporter Aubrey McGinty comes to her asking for all the files on the murder of TV evangelist Buddy Wing. Aubrey does not believe that convicted murderer Sissy James is guilty, and she enlists Maddy's help to prove it.
