If you are at all interested in the history or developent of the detective story over the years, you will greatly enjoy this.Well written by British mystery author.
Classic critical study of mystery and detective fiction up until around 1970. I can't agree with Symons's evaluation of many books he covers -- he is particularly dismissive of female authors -- but it's a useful overview of the history of the genre.
