I don't know about you, but I'm always hard-pressed to find a good romantic movie that's not cheesy or too Hollywood. (I absolutely draw the line at the ones Hallmark puts out.)

By accident, I just saw a gem the other day: Promised (Aussie, 2019). Based on a true story, it's a classic arranged marriage tale involving two Italian families in Australia in the 1950s. I'm unfamiliar with the two lead actors, but Paul Mercurio (of Strictly Ballroom fame) has a role.

It's utterly charming!

That sounds lovely Regina.  I'll look for it.

Another Aussie-"A Town Like Alice"-Bryan Brown.  Far East WWll and post war Australia.  From the late 80's I think.

Jan, I'm on the hunt for the 80s version. I may have to do an interlibrary loan. Thanks for the tip.
