Murder at a Washington party. Finding out who and why are always fun in one of Truman's books, this one is no exception

Written, as all Truman novels were, with a unique sense of insider knowledge and characteristic good humor. Good, old-fashioned murder--you know where.

excerpt taken from front page of book
...It was his favorite tool. It weighed more than a pound. Most of the weight was in an elaborately carved irvory handle. Its blade was six inches from the butt of its handle to its sharp tip.

He'd taken steel wool to it only the day before. He often did that with the tools of his profession. He took pride in them, considered them surgical instruments. He knew that without them, he could not be the best in his profession.

He stepped back and surveyed his work, his favorite ice pick in his large, beefy hand.

"That thing could kill you," some said. Of course he already knew that.

AN ELABORATELY CARVED ICE PICK...IT WAS HIS FAVORITE TOOL...That thing could kill you someone said...but he already knew that.
(this book has a torn off back cover but is otherwise readable. It was a used book and I ripped it while I was reading it. I finished it and had no problems with it, but don't ask for it if this is a problem for you.)
