This mystery continues a series that includes a girl and her brothers as children of immigrants to America. The chief character, Kate, solves little mysteries in her hometown, sometimes with the help of her light-hearted brothers.
In the book, Kate and her family travels to visit family in the city. She meets her cousin Megan who is blind, due to an accident, who looks just like her. Together, they discover a mysterious treasure map and with grim-looking men suspiciously interested in it.
In addition to the diversion in location and with Megan added to the series, Johnson sprinkles in a little romance with Megan and a bitter young man who felt responsible for her accident, as well as Kate and the young man whom she has felt a growing attraction to throughout the series....
