I first read this book as a teenage girl back in 1986 and it has given me a lifelong appreciation for what the soldiers and nurses of the US sacrificed in Vietnam. The stories are honest and gut wrenching. Nowadays it is easy to get first hand accounts of the Vietnam war from the History or Military channels, but nothing can compare to reading first hand accounts that were written not long after the war was still fresh on people's minds. I would recommend this book as a history lesson for the younger generation that is somewhat clueless about the Vietnam era.
