This romantic suspense novel revolves around a literary agent who is haunted by nightmares since the loss of her baby. On holiday in a small village, she befriends an eccentric young widow who fears for her son's safety and forms an unlikely alliance with a reclusive, brooding playwright. As always with Susanna Kearsley, this story has great atmosphere, slowly gathering suspense, and a sweet-yet-subtle romance. Loved the setting (Wales) and the sub-plot involving Merlin!

This is an interesting story about a woman who works for a publishing firm, her grief, and her efforts to recruit new authors. She is invited by one of her authors to spend Christmas holidays with her and her current beau. Lyn's firm wants her to sign a playwright who lives nearby and offers a directorship if she succeeds. However, Lyn finds herself involved in a strange situation. She dreams of a baby, carrying him away as she flees from a dragon. The loss of her own son was traumatic, especially after the loss of her husband. But the dreams become reality when she meets a young woman who also lost her husband and fears that someone is trying to take her son from her. She views Lyn as her son's protector. When the fears assume reality, Lyn takes the baby and runs. The mother and son have both been drugged because someone indeed wants to steal her son. What she fears is reality after all. Not only is there mystery but there is romance as well. Rather nice read.
