A couple days ago, the BOB main page was updated. Now, I can't get a search to turn out properly. Every search I make shows a HUGE list of people with appx 3000 books each "matching search". Since only 10 copies of the book are in the system, I know this is wrong. So, I try clicking on some of the boxer links and nearly every one of them says the box account is on hold. When one ISN'T on hold, the book I am looking for isn't on their shelf either!

I was really liking my BOB account. I hate this new problem!

Uh, yeah, like this is totally wrong!!! I have way too many books that have the same title as another book, so I NEED that author clarifier! I don't like this AT ALL!!! I just put in the title of a book that is NOT listed in the system, and got 7 hits off it. I would have to search each of those shelves only to discover that the book is not on any of them. With the previous setup, it was specific to the title & author listing (NOT a keyword search) and told me immediately that the book was not on a boxers shelf! I'm sending in feedback to let them know I do NOT like the new change!!!

Thanks for letting me know. At first glance I couldn't figure out what you were talking about, so I started to enter a specific book off my list that I would like to look for. Blam! then it hit me in the face!!!

Are we the only two people who use the BoB page to search for our books to do BoB trades??? I can't believe no one else is bothered by this change. Robert is obviously not going to change it back if only two people use it. I didn't know I was so unique! Dang I miss the title/author search!

The problem is that it now matches the title & author words to words IN THE DESCRIPTION!

Before you could put the title and the author in their appropriate slots, and it would only search the title for the title words and the author for the author words. Now, I put the title & the author and it comes up with hits in the description!

Case in point: title: Quest  Author: Jacques

Results: I Do, I Do, I Do
Maggie Osborne

A rich, proper spinster aching for a man's touch, Juliette March is an easy target for the seductive Jean Jacques Villette. When he disappears with her inheritance after their wedding, Juliette sets out to find the scoundrel. She never expects to meet Clara Klaus, who ran a boardinghouse until Jean Jacques swept her off her feet, then swept himself out of town.

While following the trail of their no-good husband, Clara and Juliette run into Zoe Wilder, another victim of the debonair Jean Jacques. Now Juliette's ready to put a bullet in his cheating heart. When these three vengeful ladies embark on a misbegotten quest to Alaska, things get downright dangerous--especially for the unsuspecting men they entice along the way. . . .

And
Life and Death in a Coral Sea
Jacques-Yves Cousteau w/Philippe Diole

Jaqcues-Yves Cousteau is one of the world's foremost pioneers in undersea exploration. A co-inventor of the aqua-lung, he has also helped to develop a number of other devices and techniques for making man more at home in the sea - most recently, the Precontinent experiment in undersea living. With Frederic Dumas, he wrote The Silent World and other works; with his son Philippe, he wrote The Shark, and his television shows appear regularly. He is now sailing the oceans in quest of new knowledge of the world beneath the surface.

I don't think either one of those will satisfy my desire for a book by Brian Jacques titled Quest :(

NOW does anybody else see a problem with the elimination of the title & author search?

I used this new search recently and NONE of the results were even remotely close to what I was looking for.  I much prefer the title/author search boxes.

I was looking for books from an author who had the same word in several titles.  So I had a bunch of search results that I had to go through to try and find the book I actually wanted and gave up after looking through a couple.  It was so easy before to find what I wanted. : (

Weird, I'm not having any problems at all.  In fact it was a bit easier to use...I entered my keyword(s), hit enter, the members' names popped up, once I clicked on the names the books automatically came up rather than that person's acount and having to find the particular book I wanted.  Has something been fixed cuz I'm not getting the kooky results like you guys are.

I was using it 2 days ago, and my results were the same as Michelle's.....instead of just the person's whole shelf, I was shown just the books matching my description.  (which I thought was lovely)  Now, I wasn't using title/author, though, just keyword.......

I do not like the new change.  I usually know the title and author of the books I am looking for and that is how I prefer to search.   They keyword search did not give me any title even close to what I was looking for.  Even using the ISBN search, I got books I was not looking for.  I sure hope they go back to the title/author search.

That said, I did like the fact that if I typed in the authors name in as the keyword, I got only boxers with that authors books and I was able to easily see if they had the book I was looking for.

I do like that after you search and go to the members shelf it does only pull up the relevant books.  This is much better than having to re-enter the same search on the individual shelves.

It is nie to have only the searched for book(s) show up when you click the person's account. HOWEVER, the main trouble I have been having is using the ISBN search. I have a ton of books on my reminder list that have many copies in the system. Ideally, I could enter the ISBN in the Box search and get only the books I am looking for. Instead, I get a huge list of people whose box accounts are on hold. I also get a wierd result that says 3,000 coipies are available on the shelf, but the boxer only has 15 books total. OFc ourse, since the shelf is on hold, I can't check anything anyway. *sigh* I do NOT want to be able to search boxes that aren't available. I have had to stop searching using the ISBN. If this keeps up, I will not be renewing my box account. It isn't worth the amount of time I have to use searching through 25 boxes that are on hold and another 20 boxes that don't have the book I asked about anyway.

I also miss the title/author search function.  I need to put my BOB on hold because I have way too many in my TBR.  Hopefully when I'm ready to use BOB again, there will be improved functionality.

I have no idea why people whose boxing is on hold even show UP in the search results ...

If I were going to make a suggestion for changing boxer search, it would be an added layer of sorting, such that, let's say, you search for "Davy Jones Locker Mystery" and currently, it lists a bunch of boxers' names who have some book related to that on their shelves somewhere. I'd like it to list out the relevant TITLES (with boxer names next to them who have them on their shelves -- two or three people per book, if multiple people have it on their shelves).

Like what happens if you click on an author's name in a listing, rather than searching for an author's name in the main PBS search box.

I sent in on this, and was told that it will probably come back. I'm sure hoping so, and soon! I got books I wanna find hahaha

I do agree with you, Melissa, it would be nice it that were available with the title/author search too. It is a nice feature.

I'm sure the keyword feature has it's place, but when I'm searching for a specific book, by a specific author, that's what I want to be able to find. Not the examples I gave :(

It definitely has its place if I want to find arthurian type novels, or private investigator stories, or ghost stories, but I usually know what I'm looking for, not browsing. Keyword search is great for browsing, and if I ever get to the end of my loooong list of books listed in my notebook that I'm already looking for, I may give keyword search a try. But, even then, probably not, since I will probably go looking at specific authors recommended to me based on the types of books I've already read.

Robert, we will all send you virtual long-stemmed roses and lots of virtual hugs if you put it back, pretty please????

Here, I'll even start with the first dozen!

Okay, Tracy, I see now what you mean.  For those who are curious, type the ISBN 037382579x into the ISBN search box.  I got 11 members all saying that they had 3,432 books that matched the search.  Weird.  ETA: One of those is my account which shows 0 because my account is on hold.

The keyword does not yet annoy but I'm sure it will down the road.  Give the option of keyword, author or title search please.

I really hope that they bring back the author and book title search.  That was the #1 way that I searched for a BOB transaction.  Now even using the ISBN it brings me a list of useless information and I still cannot find the book I am looking for.

PLEASE bring back the old search methods.

I just clicked to do a BOB search and the old system was back. I am still having the same problem searching by ISBN, but I can at least search by title or author now. Better than before, but to me, still not as good as at first.
