Hello Everyone, I am a new Christian and now realize that the books I used to read are just not right for me to read. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good books? |

Oh my Tiffany, there are so many! Whatever type of book you like now - you'll find a Christian Fiction that will also be of that genre. Give us some idea of what you have been reading (authors or genres) and we can help you out more. Also read some of the threads on this forum and you'll get a lot of ideas. Bless you for making a decision for Christ and for knowing that it will change your life forever. God Bless You. |

Tiffany, Welcome to the family of faith! Cozi is right on track...let's look at what you've been reading and try to find similar Christian Fiction that you might enjoy. Assuming that your Bookshelf and your Wish List are indicative of what you've been reading, here are some suggestions of good stuff that is readily available in the PBS system. Mystery/Thriller: The Bowers Files series (The Pawn, The Rook, The Bishop, The Knight) by Stephen James - the first couple in this series are available in the PBS system, but you'll have to WL the last two...We have a couple CF Mystery/Thriller experts who visit this forum so they'll probably be along soon and add some other recommendations. Romantic Suspense: The Cape Refuge series by Terri Blackstock, Rock Harbor series from Collen Coble Historical Romance: You'll find that a lot of us are big Deeanne Gist fans. Most of her books are available in PBS. Paranormal: Christian Paranormal is just evolving as a genre. I haven't read any but suggest that you check out this thread: 2010 Christian Fiction Challenge Lists We included Paranormal as one of the catagories so you can check out what everyone read for that catagory and see if anything strikes your fancy. Fantasy: Ted Dekker wobbles all around in the fantasy-ish, futuristic, paranormal-ish, thriller type stuff. Several of his books are available. I tried to steer you towards stuff that is available because the CF wish lists move at about the speed of a glacier! So experiment with stuff you can get your hands on quickly to get a feel for authors and subjects you like, then load up your WL. And of course, the very best place to get the good CF is in our CF swaps over on the Games Forum. We always have one or two CF games going on and we'd love to have you join us! Good luck and feel free to come back and ask questions! Last Edited on: 8/25/10 2:50 PM ET - Total times edited: 3 |

Thank you all so much. I will look into the books that have been suggested and will try them. After I was saved I went to pick up some of the books I was hoping to read but I just cannot read them anymore. I am a huge reader but sadly everything I have here at home just feels wrong to read now so I have been lost as to what to read. Thank you all for the wonderful welcome!!!! God Bless you all |

Tiffany, so happy to hear of your decision for Christ and also in your reading selection. Although I have been a Christian for many years I only recently discovered Christian Fiction. Looking at your profile, it seems we may have had some of the same interests. I was a huge fan of J.R. Ward, Christine Feehan and Lynsay Sands just to name a few but have recently come to realize that I just can't in good faith read those books anymore. Saying that I wanted you to know that I have discovered quite a few CF books to be very good. Eric Wilson writes very good paranormal books. I have been reading his "Undead Trilogy" and really enjoyed the "vampire theme". Dee Henderson writes some really good romantic suspense although apparently she is no longer writing. I just finished the Rock Harbor Series by Colleen Coble and would second that vote. If you hang around in this forum, you will get some really good suggestions and find that you will not lack for anything to read. |

Debbie Thank you for the suggestions. J.R Ward and Christine Feehan are my all time fav authors and I am so sad to have to say goodbye to their books but I have tried to pick up the books several times and I just cannot read them. Just want to thank you all for being so welcoming to me and so very helpful. Last Edited on: 8/25/10 4:25 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Tiffany- welcome to God's family!! Wonderful to have another sister in Christ. I can highly recommend the Yada Yada Prayer Group series. It is about a group of ladies from all walks of life who start a prayer support group. It follows their ups and downs as they strive to grow closer to Christ and walk in His path. Definitely read them in order though!! Fiction, but helped me learn how to pray more openly and with a worshipful heart instead of "give me" and "I need". God has placed that desire in your heart to move more towards books that honor Him and that are not filled with questionable morals or outright immorality. Follow some of the posts here that list new Christian fiction that is coming out and you will discover many Christian authors that will quickly become favorites. I love : Francine Rivers (2 thumbs up, any of her books), Terri Blackstock- any, but esp the Last Light series, Lori Copeland's Morning Shade Mysteries series (hilarious!) and her Men Of The Saddle series (Western love story and a bit of adventure), T. Davis Bunn's Acts of Faith series, anything by Karen Ball, and Susan Page Davis' Ladies Shooting Club series. |

WOOHOO! and welcome to the body of Christ! Another author worth checking into is Tamara Alexander. She does series but so far I've really enjoyed the stories. The Fountain Creek Chronicles I just finished up. The books are : Rekindled, Revealed, Remembered. I'm fixing to jump into the Timber Ridge Reflection series after I finish up the House of Hope books from Neta Jackson (the Yada Yada author) which are also great reads. I too am interested in reading more Christian fiction and less junk. I'd love any other suggestions anyone may have. Jennifer |

Tiffany--SO happy to hear about your decision. It's the most important one you will EVER make. :) I completely understand about being sad to change authors, because I've had to do the same thing! Only I admit that I've been a Christian a long time, yet I still read romances that I shouldn't have. I was convicted about it for a while and finally gave it up. It was difficult to let them go and move on, but I'm finding Christian authors that I'm really enjoying! :) Here are my favorites so far: Francine Rivers: Redeeming Love especially...oh my gosh, best book ever, and her Mark of the Lion series is amazing as well. Make sure you read that series in order! Liz Curtis Higgs: Amazing historical romance author! Her novels are very well researched and she pulls you into the stories easily! I think I got a little too emotionally involved while reading some of her books, haha! Deeanne Gist: Just discovered her a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoy her novels! Again, we're happy for you. :) Please know that although we have never met, you can contact me if you have any questions about your new life in Christ! I'm no expert by any means, but I will definitely try to help if I can! :) |
