I just joined PBS today and listed the two books I currently have available to swap. I realize that if I list 9, I will get a few credits. I just don't have 9 to list right now but I would like to perhaps get started in swapping with others. In particular, I would like to get a Dean Koontz book that is currently available.

Is there a preferred way of advertising books or looking for people who may be interested in a particular book that I have so that I may get some points?

Hi, Sarah!  Welcome to PBS.

The help center has this:

The Book Bazaar is where you can advertise your bookshelf.   (You can't do it in the other forums.)

Welcome Sarah......it might be counter productive, but you could hit the book sale or the Goodwill or Salvation Army and find some books in good shape and post those. You'll soon have alot of books.  Hit up your friends and family for the books they are getting rid of.

Sarah; either purchase credits in the PBS Kiosk, or go to the Book Bazaar to see who is selling credits. You may be able to get them a little cheaper.

Thanks everyone!  I was given a credit last night by someone.  I suppose I was a little anxious to get started with this thing once I saw that there were a lot of books that I would really like to have. I did manage to request the Dean Koontz book I really wanted and haven't been able to find locally.

I will probably go to the thrift store and pick up some books. Sometimes they have some really good ones down there. I live in a college city so people are tossing books they no longer want all the time. It's rather frequent in this area. I should be getting some pretty good ones up soon.

Also check your personal settings. It looks like you have your Bookshelf marked as private. I had to click on your screen name to see what you had posted.  You'll get more response when you post more books and have the book list link showing on your posts. One thing I did when I first joined was to search for Wish List books for my fave authors and genres.  I found several that I already owned but hadn't read yet w/long WL lines.  I moved those to the top of my TBR pile.  I also wrote some down that I was interested in reading that had long lines waiting for them.  When I went to the used book store (it's an addiction) I pulled out the list and found several of them. I bought them used but in good condition. I'm posting them as soon as I read them, knowing I'll get a credit quickly because there are so many people waiting for them.

Welcome!  I know when I first started, I couldn't get credits fast enough because there were SO MANY books I wanted.

It gave me the incentive to start going thru my overflowing bookshelves and TBR pile and post stuff.  Of course, with new stuff coming in also, I'm not sure I'm taking care of my overflowing bookshelf problem, LOL!

You could add a bit more about you in your signature line. Check out other people's posts, some have deals, some have personal information, you get the idea :) And keep posting in the discussion forums.
