It has been many years since I read this story, but I remember that I loved it. I also know that it is considered one of the classic mysteries--one of the best of all time. It is British, it is about a time in the past (maybe the 1930s?), and it's not a thrill-a-minute, but it's clever and it's very satisfying.

A Lord Peter Wimsey mystery.
