This year my son's teacher has said that they need to not only read fiction books but nonfiction so I am looking for good nonfiction books for a 3rd grade boy. Anyone have any good recommendations? Theresa |

Theresa, give me some idea what your boy is like. Does he like cars and mechanical things, numbers or funny jokes. Maybe music, drawing or dance. Is he introspective or a social butterfly etc. Does he go with the flow or frustrates easily. Maybe he loves animals and nature. I know kids like just about anything at this age, but it's nice to zero in on what they like the most. This way I might be able to match him up with books he likes. Hope I'm not too late. |

Here are some suggestions but this would be easier to do if I knew what he's interested in:

Thanks for the reply both of you. I am not sure what he is into because for the most part we have only ever read fiction. Theresa |

What are his favorite fiction stories? I bet I can find some nonfiction ones to pair with them. |

Sarah, he likes Cam Jansen and Junior B. Jones. I am still trying to find fiction books that he really likes as well. |

Ah, he likes Mysteries! I think I can find some non-fiction books with the subjects of how things are solved. There are plenty of fuuny books on all sorts of non-fiction subjects. Science: there are books on inventors or discoveries and how things are made Math: Books on how things are calculated, like clocks, money, History: books on war, prehistory, religions, American history, you name it. Or any other subject. |

He might be interested in secret messages and code breaking. For example: Ciphers and Codes by Karen Price Hossell (2002) |
