This debut novel was a wonderful surprise. Although there is a mystery, it was very much a character-driven novel. The author does well with conveying the atmosphere of the small mid-western town where the story is set, and she writes about her flawed characters and their troubled pasts and presents with compassion.

Highly recommend - I finished this in one day.

This book was just Okay. I really enjoy a good mystery, and this was a bit disappointing. Very early on you learned that the main character has a severe drinking problem, and this is a main point throughout the story. I found it very distracting from the actual mystery going on. The book also left the twist and turns that a good mystery usually has.
