#4 in the series. A reader could start with this one but I think would be confused about some of the characters. I liked this book better than the last, it's a pretty straightforward hunt for two serial killers. Some pretty dark scenarios are depicted and there is a lot of strong language. I still love the setting, the unique dialogue, du Pre and Madeleine and the other characters. I got bored with du Pre continually wishing for Benetsee. In the end, the discovery of one of the killers is either supernatural intervention or just dumb luck, while the other is more deductive. I was mostly satisfied with the ending, which I had to think about for a while. I've objected to just that situation in other books. I had to ask myself if I'm okay with it here because I like the characters better, was the situation really different, did the author shade it in a more palatable way. Haven't made up my mind. But at any rate, I enjoyed this one and I'll be going on with the series.
