This was the 6th book relating to the Max Rupert series (which is one of the best series ever written in my opinion). This one centers around a young Boady Sanden at 15 in a small town long before he became an attorney. I wasn't sure I would enjoy this one as much as the others in the series but I couldn't put it down. I was wound up in parts then I had tears in my eyes at the end. One thing Eskens always achieves is to make his characters a part of our hearts. Another beautifully written book. I want more, Mr. Eskens. Please write faster.

Young Boady Sanden has the type of voice that grabs hold of me and drags me right into the heart of a story. He's a typical fifteen-year-old boy who is blind to everything unless it has some impact on his own personal wants or desires. Boady isn't an "Us Versus Them" type of person, he's a good kid at heart, but author Allen Eskens does a superb job of showing how Boady has absorbed facets of racism without even realizing that he has done so. This is a lesson that many people need to learn, and Boady begins to learn his when the Elgins move in across the street.

Parts of the mystery surrounding what happened to Lida Poe are relatively easy to deduce, but not all of them, and the journey to Truth is mesmerizing. The scales begin to fall from Boady's eyes, and as he finally starts seeing people like his mother and his neighbor Hoke Gardner and his boss as individuals with their own lives and wants and needs, so do readers.

Nothing More Dangerous is a coming of age story that inexorably gathers momentum until it blossoms into something much larger than the sum of its parts. Boady Sanden's going to be with me for a long time, and I think he will be with you, too.

Loved this book. This is my 2nd Eskens book and I've enjoyed both. Definitely an author to follow.
In this book we follow the life of 15 year old Boady and everyone around him. It is a coming of age novel that is mixed with a mystery, racial tension, friendship and family. The setting of this book was done up perfectly and the characters were some of the best that I've read in awhile. There was not one single moment of boredom while reading. I was almost sad when it ended as I could've read more. A full 5 star book for me.

This was the first book I have ever read by this author but it definitely won't be the last! I was mesmerized by his writing. It was well written and kept me wanting to keep reading. Certain parts of the book even had me a little teary-eyed because it was just so good. I will be keeping an eye out for his other books.
