Nothing That Meets the Eye The Uncollected Stories of Patricia Highsmith Author:Patricia Highsmith Nothing That Meets the Eye confirms Patricia Highsmith as a great American writer. The stories assembled in Nothing That Meets the Eye, written between 1938 and 1982, are vintage Highsmith: a gigolo-like psychopath preys on unfulfilled career women; a lonely spinster's fragile hold on reality is tethered to the bottle; an estranged postal worker invents homicidal fantasies about his coworkers. From this new collection, a remarkable portrait of the American psyche at mid-century emerges, unforgettably distilled by the inimitable eye of Patricia Highsmith.« less
I'm a huge fan of Patricia Highsmith and these stories (mostly unpublished) are addictive! They start with her early stories (1938-1949) and end with stories from (1952 - 1982). From the back cover: "An atmosphere of nameless dread, of unspeakable foreboding, permeates every page of Patricia Highsmith, and there's nothing quite like it." - Boston Globe. I'm surprised Alfred Hitchock didn't make more of her stories into movies.
