I didn't like this book as much as others in the series, but I didn't have any trouble finishing it. I just thought there were too many subplots going on and none of them were fully developed. I read and enjoy this series partly because of the wonderful descriptions of New Mexico because I've been there many times and there was just too much Ireland for me, even though it sounds beautiful. Anyway, if you want to start this series, don't start it with this one because I don't think it's typical or as engrossing as some of the others.

I have read all of these books about the Cheif of Police in Santa Fe, NM, and his Army Officer wife. They are great police procedurals with interesting characters fully developed.

I like McGarrity and this is one of his best. Good mystery, good characters, unusual settings. Very involving. Great read to the last page.

All the Kevin Kearney novels are great. Lots of action with the mystery, the police work, and the home life. It brings back fond memories of New Mexico.
