Archer is prolific because he sticks with his writing strengths: snappy dialogue and clever plot twists. He provides next to no description of scenes or people and very little insight into his characters other than what comes out in the plot. This series seems to be set in the 1970s, at least to start with, but there's almost nothing in the writing or the action that fits with this, so it seems more old-fashioned than that. Despite this - or because of this? - he manages to be quite readable and entertaining and I've already lined up the #2 book in this new series.
