This was so different than the previous book I read by this author (The Shy Duchess) that it was quite a surprise. I enjoyed the unusual setting and time period more than I expected (Renaissance era Venice). Two plusses: the plot had a lot of twists and excitement, I didn't know how it was going to turn out, and the heroine was a strong independent woman. I also liked it that the hero quickly realized that his love for her was more important than his need for revenge. All in all, a good read. 3.5 stars.
