This was great to take me back to my childhood love of baseball. All the people I followed while growing up in Indiana. And it gave background of how the offices worked and the "old guys" v. the "new guys" and tensions that existed, especially racial tensions.

Many baseball books have been written but only a select few have been done by truly great writers. This is one of them. Roger Kahn, Roger Angell, and David Halberstam are three of the best. You can put them up with your favorites and you'll see this isn't hyperbole. Simply put, this guy knows how to spin a phrase, making a fine baseball book a true work of art. I finally got smart and kept a copy. It will stay in my library. Few do but this is one that I know I'll read again and again.
